The Biggest Loser Mom Contest

Dear Annette from Catnip and Coffee :

Thank you for suggesting we have a
Biggest Loser contest. Your comment on our blog has inspired us to kick our own collective ass!

Love,
Sarah and Devra

We are announcing "The Biggest Loser Mom"* competition! There will be a Grand prize Loser Mom and a Loser Mom Runner Up. Even if no one else wants to participate, but we hope you will, we're going to do it and post our results.

Sarah and I have talked it over. We agree that while we are each extremely successful at motivating, supporting and encouraging other people, we both, quite frankly, suck at self-motivation, self-direction and tend to discourage ourselves.

Which does make it seem counter productive to participate in a weight loss contest. I mean, when a person (or in our case two) isn't self-motivated, it might go hand in hand that that person (or people) don't give a rats ass if she (or they) win a competition.

Unless maybe the prize could be beer (for Sarah) and a three-way with Ben & Jerry (for Devra).

However, it cannot be those sorts of prizes. Because those are the type of "winnings" have contributed to the collective ass we now wish to lose. It's time for an attitude adjusment. It's time for us to kick our own ass and we invite you to kick it, or your own, too.

Rules are simple. Because if they are complicated we'll just give up, drink beer and eat icecream.

Length of Contest: Begins September 1, 2009. Ends October 15, 2009

Entry fee: $10.00 per participant. Contest is open to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to participate. Entry fees will be kept in a PayPal account which will then be used as prize money for the two winners.

Liability: None for us. You participate of your own free will, medical clearance is your responsibility. Basically we're holding the contest, but participation is at your own risk. Think of this declaration as being similar to the sign you see in restaurants stating they aren't responsible for any articles of clothing left at the establishment.

Weigh-in: Weekly. Weigh yourself on the same scale at the same time of day, wearing the same clothes for each weekly weigh-in. Loss will be calculated by a percentage, not by pound (lb.). Here is an explanation of how to calculate.

Awarding of Prizes: The week of October 15 when the contest officially ends. Two prizes will be awarded, with first prize going to the person who has the highest percentage of weight loss, and second prize to the next highest percentage of weight loss.

* The contest is named for our site "Loser Moms" there is no requirement that participants be moms.

C'mon Melissa, do it! Remember Sarah and I excel at motivating and supporting other people.

Of course you should do it!

Seriously considering this...over a cupcake. And a three way with Ben&Jerry.

I know I need it. The loser thing...not the cupcake. No further comment on the three way.

Bring it, for sure! I'm in.

Awww! I love you guys! Of course I'm in. I need all the motivation I can get. And I know how money motivation works for me.

Do I have to tell you how much I weigh?

I am taking all y'all down.

(Or, you know, contributing $10 to the cause.)

What about if you're just a loser and not a mom? Because I'll totally give you ten bucks to do this because I need to deal with the 30 more pounds I have to lose and it's always more fun to do it with other people.

I won the biggest loser contest at work, which is what motivated me to lose this first 20 pounds this April. The week before I started I was crying and saying I was not ever going to be able to lose any weight and my knees were going to hurt forever and I snored like a 60 year old man and then all of a sudden something shifted and it at least got kick-started.

Contact me directly for tips or motivation or to talk about how much you suck, contest or no. I joined Weight Watchers for the first time at 13. I know all about it and I've said it all.

This time around, I recommend Fage Greek yogurt with honey for breakfast or whenever you need to feel full, that carved deli turkey stuff on hand at all times, a little bit of dark chocolate most days of the week and a shitload of water. (See? I don't even really care if you beat me. I just want everyone to be happy. :))

I'm also a master elliptical machine playlist maker.

Oh - and do NOT weigh yourself daily. Do not be a bitch to yourself in this process, no matter what Jillian Effing Michaels says. It will not work long-term if you are, and that's the only kind of working you want.

xo.

Clarification:

Contest is named for our site, not a classification of who can compete.

So the answer to Laurie's question is "Yes, you can participate and we welcome you with open arms!"

I might just join for fun- I don't need to lose that much- certainly not enough to win anything, but I'm definitely stuck near the finish and in need of motivation. Also, I kind of want to be BFF's with Laurie, because she seems pretty frickin' awesome!

Hmmm. Thinking of doing this...

Thanks, Devra. I signed up. And thanks, X. (Honestly, I wasn't previously acquainted with X and didn't pay for that comment...I do appreciate it however and X is very lovely to say such a thing. ;))

Oh, this is tempting. I would have to go buy a scale and that would mean admitting how much weight I actually have to lose. Will ponder over the next couple of days; this could be just the kick in the ass I need.

C'mon people, smile on each other, everybody get together try to out lose one another right now. Right now.

Or I will take another song from the 60's and bastardize it.

This contest is just what I need to motivate my behind into dieting! I sooo want to lose weight, but always "fall off the diet wagon." I'm really competitive though, so . . . I might have an edge, though. LOL! I work with Chefs Diet,™ which inspired by Dr. Sears’ Zone Diet. It recommends the right percentage of carbs, protein, and fats - 40/30/30 - to lose weight. All the meals are made with fresh ingredients, portion-controlled and delivered to your doorstep. Right now Chefs Diet™ is having a free food give-away for a month that you could win by entering the contest at http://www.myChefsDiet.com

I am thinking about it. Just trying to figure out how much time it might take. I have a 4 1/2 yo and 6 month old....But I should loose some weight. I hate my blubbery belly ;)

I was all set to join and then I remembered, my scale is in storage. Along with everything else I own.

I could weigh myself at the gym though.

I am in! I lost 25 lbs when Liz started another blog for weight loss last fall, but somehow, ten of those pounds found me at home late one night, tied me up and poured chocolate sauce down my throat and glued cinnamon buns to my ass, and now those 10 pounds won't get the eff out. I have those, plus more to go and this is just what I need to get in gear.

Victoria said...

Awesome!!! I am posting this up over at my site. I'm master of motivating others as well!

Nancy said...

Okay - Goddess convinced me. I was part of the blog Lisa mentioned and lost *ALMOST* 20 pounds there, so I'm sure this will help with shedding the few pounds that crept back on and the other, oh, 50 or so I still need to lose ;)

Sally said...

I don't blog much, but I'd love to join this. I gained back 15 of the pounds I lost while breastfeeding. I guess that's what happens when you stop needing to eat for three, but keep eating for three anyway.

Earlier this year, I lost weight and was very happy. And then I went to Maine and met Priscilla who makes pies out of her house. And I ate pie and the weight I lost found me. It was Priscilla's fault.

I'm signing up. And I'm a least 1000 miles away from Priscilla and her evil (but delectable) pies, so hopefully that will do the trick
